Mocha’s Nose and the Heart Behind Our Logo

I get asked about our logo all the time, and the answer always brings me back to Mocha. She was my big chocolate Lab and the dog who shaped so much of who I am as a pet owner and as the person behind Wakefield Pets.

Mocha had this unforgettable nose. It was broad, soft, and always right there, nudging me for attention or checking in to make sure I was close by. When I started building Wakefield Pets, I knew I wanted the logo to mean something. I worked with a designer and shared the outline of Mocha’s nose as the starting point, because it felt like the truest way to honor her.

That little shape carries more meaning than most people realize. It brings me back to quiet moments with her, the way she stayed close, and the steady comfort she gave me every day. The way the outline forms a small heart feels fitting, because she was such a source of love in my life.

She also shaped me as a dog owner. Mocha wasn’t great on a leash, and I accepted that, so she spent most of her outside time in the backyard instead of going on walks. Watching her age and seeing her hips weaken changed the way I think about dogs and movement. It made me realize how important it is to give dogs the chance to get out, explore, and stay active while they can.

Mocha taught me to slow down and show up for dogs in the ways that matter. She made me appreciate how important walks are for a dog both physically and mentally. It’s why I make sure every dog in my care gets the chance to explore, move, and feel seen.

Mocha is no longer here, but she’s still at the heart of what we do and each time we look at our logo, we are reminded of her.

Thanks for letting me share a little piece of her with you.
